About Dr. Helm
When you meet Dr. Helm, you will quickly notice that he cares about his patients and wants the best possible results for every one of them. Patients love him because he is a perfectionist at heart, and that means their smile will be perfect too. Parents love him because he is honest and takes a conservative approach to orthodontic treatment, recommending only treatment that is necessary and in the best interest of their child. This passion for success, detail, and honesty can be seen in all areas of Dr. Helm’s work.
Dr. Helm began practicing in Green Valley Ranch in 2010. He chose the Green Valley Ranch area because of the strong community feel. He has a great passion for his work and enjoys being a part of the life-changing results that occur with his patients.
Dr. Helm is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is the only private-practice, board certified orthodontist practicing in Green Valley Ranch, Northeast Denver, Northeast Aurora, and many of the other surrounding communities. Only a small percent of all practicing orthodontists in the United States are board certified.
Dr. Helm had only been in practice for a few years before his professional peers started recognizing his work. Every year since 2013 Colorado dentists have selected Dr. Helm as a “Top Dentist” as featured in 5280 Magazine.
One of the many ways that Dr. Helm gives back to the community is by providing orthodontic treatment to kids in need through the Colorado Orthodontic Foundation.
Dr. Helm is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Rocky Mountain Society of Orthodontists, American Dental Association, Colorado Dental Association, as well as the Metro Denver Dental Society. Dr. Helm was honored to be one of a handful of young orthodontists in the United States selected by the American Association of Orthodontists as an emerging leader in orthodontics and was invited to participate in the American Association of Orthodontics Young Leaders Conference.
Life Outside of Practice
Dr. Helm and his wife, Abby, have three young children (two daughters and a son) who keep them busy riding bikes, going to the pool, playing sports, and enjoying life. Dr. Helm is actively involved as a volunteer leader and teacher in the children’s program at his church. He also enjoys golf, softball, mountain biking, snowboarding, and cheering on the Denver Broncos!
Dr. Helm received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, graduating first in his dental class with highest distinctions in academics, research, and patient care. He went on to complete a three-year Orthodontic and Dentofacial Orthopedic specialty residency at The Ohio State University to earn his orthodontic specialty certificate and Master of Science degree. This additional training is what makes Dr. Helm an “Orthdontic Specialist” or “Orthodontist”. In order to keep up on advances with orthodontic treatment, he has received training and certification in the use of traditional braces, various orthodontic appliances, as well as Invisalign®.
During his 7 years of professional training, Dr. Helm was inducted into Omicron Kappa Upsilon honorary dental society and was the recipient of numerous awards , including: the prestigious William S. Kramer Award of Excellence (Alpha Alpha Chapter of Omicron Kappa Upsilon), Excellence in Academic Achievement Award (Alpha Omega International Dental Fraternity), Award for Exceptional Interest in the Development of the Oro-facial Complex (American Association of Orthodontists), Award for Excellence in Scholarship in Dental Materials (The Academy of Dental Materials), Certificate of Recognition for the pursuit of Excellence and Achievement in Oral Medicine (American Academy of Oral Medicine), Oral Biology Award (The American Association of Oral Biologists), and The Quintessence Award (Quintessence Publishing Company).
Dr. Helm has conducted research focused on bone biology and regeneration. He has presented this research nationally as well as internationally, and he was a finalist in the American Association of Dental Research’s respected Hatton Award competition.
